Position Profile

The Edmonton Convention Centre is looking for a Manager, Building Services to join the team. The Manager, Building Services will be responsible for the daily operation of custodial and light upkeep duties at the Edmonton Convention Centre. The Manager, Building Services has a high degree of knowledge and skill and work to ensure a positive guest experience through effective and efficient processes which includes supervision of extensive cleaning and quality standards, regular quality checks and personnel coaching. The Manager, Building Services is responsible for modeling our core values and serves a significant role in nurturing the same within the team to deliver remarkable guest services.

Job Details

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing daily observations, direction, and assistance to personnel; ensures full utilization of employee capabilities 
  • Training, counseling, guiding, and directing staff in proper performance of their duties in a culture where health and safety are at the forefront.   
  • Preparing staffing and supervisor schedules, schedule and oversee cleaning contractors including bio-hazard contractors.  
  • Regularly inspects venue for cleaning standard compliance, improvements, and upkeep. 
  • Regularly inspects equipment for working condition and will arrange for maintenance and repair.  
  • Inventory Control – maintain inventory/par stock for all materials and goods needed.
  • Maintaining solid waste reduction and recycling plans. Shall schedule and coordinate all garbage, recycling, cardboard bale, used oil, and compost pickups.
  • Coordinating horticulture, specialized cleaning and biohazard cleaning contractors and assist with Pest Control activities.
  • Resolving employee’s conflicts, disciplines staff, authorizes overtime, etc.
  • Administering all employee relations policies and enforce all company policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Ensuring service standards and procedures are consistently applied
  • Planning annual budget, monitors, and tracks, purchases, requisitions, approved vendor lists and expenses
  • Coordinating WHMIS and other related training to staff.
  • Health, Safety and Environmental Stewardship – acknowledges regulatory compliance, organization policy and environmental management systems.
  • Overseeing linen, laundry, and contract cleaning/rentals

The successful candidate will have:

  • 3 years as Executive housekeeper in Hotels, Convention Centre, or Health Care Facility. Supervisory Role in a Building Services Contracts company
  • High school Diploma and Cleaning Industry Certificate considered an asset
  • Clear direction, problem solver, attention to detail and strong situational awareness.  
  • Onsite presence – and flexibility to accommodate business demands. This may include evenings, weekends, or stat holidays.  
  • Knowledge of health and safety, and food safety requirements, terms, and priorities.  
  • First-Aid and WHMIS/GHS is a bonus – but we will train you.  
  • Extensive knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, with specific focus on infectious disease prevention.   
  • Working knowledge of cleaning equipment and tools 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Working knowledge of payroll system 
  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements is essential.  
  • Maintains MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) catalogue for quick reference and COR (Certificate of Recognition) audits 
  • Knowledge of GBAC (Global Bio risk Advisory Council)
